This is a glamorous Fenton Carnival glass iridescent footed creamer with the Orange Tree pattern.

The production of Carnival Glass began in the U. S. in 1907. The new process of creating an iridescent film on patterned glassware, introduced by The Fenton Art Glass Company, was meant to be a less costly alternative to the process through which Tiffany, Steuben, and others produced glassware with internal iridescence.

Molten glass was poured into a mold and then forced under great pressure into that mold to assume a general shape with a particular pattern. The glass was removed from the mold and reheated, then hand-shaped to final form by spinning, flaring and/or adding special edge treatment .

Still hot, it was then sprayed with a metallic salt solution , which bonded with the glass and the resulting metallic film reflected various spectra of light to create the lovely iridescence for which Carnival Glass is known.

The type of metallic salt used and the thickness of application determined the color and the color's intensity.

Fenton Carnival Glass produced during the Carnival Era (1907-1930s) is not marked. Re-issued Carnival Glass produced from 1970 on is marked.
