This listing is for a beautiful rich red colored Vietnamese lacquered vase with an interesting crackled line pattern.
As early as the 18th century the Nam Phuong guild was active in the ancient town of Thank Long (now present day Ha Noi), specializing in making lacquer ware. The basic material used to make the resinous varnishes called lacquer is a resin tapped from the Thus Verniciflua tree, believed to originate from Japan.
The base of most Vietnamese lacquer ware is either wood or bamboo. It is advisable that you keep lacquer ware away from direct sunlight and to thoroughly dry after contact with moisture.
